When Embrace San Diego first approached Nana's Heavenly Hot Dogs with the opportunity they were looking for food trucks or restaurants to help out. Dan Hart, the co-founder of Nana's Heavenly Dogs quickly replied with “We would love to be a part of your great cause but right now we operate a hot dog cart, Our food truck will not be ready until later this year, early 2013. Please be sure to check back with us at a later date.
Irish-Joyce from Embrace San Diego was quick to respond with “ I just wanted to let you know that even if you don't have a truck yet, you can still get involved if you choose to.” Oddly the email came as Hart was watching and episode of Secret Millionaire, and ABC show Hart someday visions Nana's Heavenly Hot Dogs being on. While the timing was not perfect, Nana's agreed to two consecutive weeks of feeding 100 plus of San Diego's homeless. Something Hart says “It just like being a Secret Millionaire without the money in the bank.”
Embrace also has a direct impact on the daily lives of the homeless every week of the year. The homeless population in San Diego is the epitome of cultural diversity. With over 7,500 chronically or permanently homeless members of our population in need of daily assistance, Embrace does its part to address those daily needs by serving the homeless 2 days per week year-round.
Nana's Heavenly Hot Dogs has promoted themselves as a full service Hot Dog Cart, and according to Hart “this allows us to step up our game, giving back in a way we could never have imagined when we started, and just a start of the great things we can do going forward.”
Nana's Heavenly Hot Dogs became a reality when the economy went south and job security went out the door. Being long term entrepreneur's Nana's Heavenly Hot Dog's scraped up the money to get their first hot dog cart in 2010 ( they now have two and a food truck coming soon) The road to success was not easy, or even paved, as we had read. Yet with success as the only option we focused on the enjoyed the journey. We wanted to be a company that not only had happy customers but gave back.
